Natural Gas Supply, Transportation, and Market Analysis
LEI’s natural gas-related activities include assessment of the synergies between the natural gas and electric power industries, examination of performance-based ratemaking and total factor productivity for natural gas distribution companies, calculation of appropriate tariffs for pipeline companies, and developing screening methodologies for potential investments in the natural gas industry. In addition, we have performed sophisticated analysis of the interrelationship between electricity and gas prices, and the implications for seasonal variation as these markets become further integrated.
LEI has worked on a variety of natural gas matters, including:
- Developing forecasts for North American natural gas prices and basis
- Examining the impacts of new pipelines and/or LNG supplies on supply region and market region prices
- Examination of the commercial terms of interstate pipeline precedent agreements and tariffs
- Examining the operations and costs of local gas distribution companies, including the feasibility of non-pipeline alternatives
