Renewable Energy

LEI provides a range of services associated with the renewable energy industry. These include working with developers to value potential revenue streams from renewable energy credits (RECs) and/or emissions offsets, advising private equity funds to craft investment plans targeted at “green” technologies, and counseling governments and regulators on creating policies that efficiently incentivize investment in renewable energy.
Examples of LEI’s recent engagements related to renewables include forecasting revenue streams to wind generators, advising on purchases of small hydro and biomass facilities, and designing renewables procurement strategies for state governments. In addition to providing assistance to policymakers on renewable energy markets and procurement, LEI works directly with renewable energy developers to provide a range of asset management and relicensing services. We have assisted in the successful development and sale of several small-scale solar facilities, provided asset management services for small hydro operators, and assisted hydro operators in relicensing . In addition, LEI has assisted in asset optimization, PPA negotiation and support, and preparation and submission of bids in response to utility procurement.

Relicensing

LEI provides management services for licensing processes of small hydropower plants. The firm has experience managing traditional licensing processes in New England (Vermont, New Hampshire) and New York. In addition to being cost prohibitive and especially onerous for small owners, licensing processes can be both complex and intimidating, given the multiple statutory deadlines and the various work streams it involves. The overarching goal of LEI is to make the licensing process seamless and cost effective for owners. We work collaboratively with owners and exhaust publicly available resources to limit the cost of conducting new studies, while at the same time addressing concerns from stakeholders. Our staff is resourceful and pragmatic in its approach to pursue the optimal solutions that address particular requirements — this includes engaging in negotiations with state and federal agencies.
