Julia Frayer participates as industry expert in discussing transmission incentives at WIRES Summer Meeting 2020

Boston, MA, July 30, 2020 – Julia Frayer, Managing Director at London Economics International LLC (“LEI”), participated as a roundtable panelist discussing Transmission Incentives at WIRES’ virtual Summer Meeting 2020.

In a panel moderated by Nina Plaushin, Ms. Frayer, along with fellow panelists Julien Dumoulin-Smith and Hon. Greg White, discussed the theoretical considerations around transmission incentives and debated investment in transmission infrastructure in the current environment. “Smart transmission investment is a key element for unlocking the potential of the electricity sector to economically support economy-wide decarbonization goals that we have set for ourselves in the next 2- to 30 years,” Ms. Frayer noted following the panel. “There are risks to transmission investment, and those need to be balanced by appropriately sized rates of return for investors. Although consumers pay for these ROE adders in rates, they also benefit from the impact that transmission has in supporting competition and innovation in the electricity sector.”

WIRES’ Summer Meeting 2020 was held on July 30, 2020 and featured industry experts addressing a range of transmission-related issues, including a timely discussion of transmission incentives, which the FERC will be taking up later this year and COVID-19’s impact on the transmission sector.
